Pasadena Staple Bookstore Vroman’s for Sale

The owner of Vroman’s is looking to sell both of its locations, along with Book Soup in West Hollywood. Vroman’s is the oldest bookstore in Southern California, so news of its closure definitely comes as a shock to most who call Pasadena home.

The company has been under the same family’s ownership for more than a century. Joel Sheldon, the current owner, says he believes it’s time for the historic company to have new direction. “Vroman’s deserves new ownership with the vision, energy, and commitment necessary to take it successfully into the future,” Sheldon wrote in a statement shared on the store’s social media accounts.

I remember when I learned that my 9th grade English teacher Ms. Sheldon was a member of the family-she encouraged my love for writing and exposed me to literature that I still have in my personal library today.
